The Science & Craft

How to Use
How to Use
  1. Install at main line (indoors): Mount upright on the cold-water inlet after the shutoff valve; connect G3/4" ports (use 1/2" or 1" adapters if needed).
  2. Add drain line: Attach the PE hose to the flush outlet and route to a floor drain.
  3. Power up: Insert 3×AA batteries in the top compartment; snap the cover closed.
  4. Open water, check leaks: Slowly open the main valve; verify arrows match flow direction.
  5. Set & forget: Auto-flush runs about every 15 days. Press Flush anytime after plumbing work or visible turbidity.
  6. Pair if needed: For taste/chemical removal, add a carbon or RO system downstream—this unit is your sediment first stage.
How It Works
How It Works
  • Spin-down vortex = first separation: The inlet forms a mini cyclone that throws heavy particles (sand, rust, scale chips) outward, slowing them before they ever touch the screen.
  • 40 µm 316L stainless mesh = precision intercept: Food-grade 316L (corrosion-proof, heat-stable) stops grit ≥40 µm while keeping pressure drop low. You see the capture through the sight window.
  • Rotary scraper = self-renewing surface: Line pressure drives a helical rotor that sweeps the mesh continuously, preventing cake-up and keeping pore size true.
  • Auto-flush valve = hands-off purge: On a ~15-day schedule (or when you tap Flush), the drain port opens; the vortex reverses across the screen and ejects the loaded debris to the hose—no disassembly, no cartridges.
  • Large-bore, brass head = high flow, low loss: Oversized passages and rigid, lead-free brass unions keep whole-home pressure strong even during high-demand moments.
  • Why this matters downstream: By stripping abrasive sediment up front, you extend the life of heaters, faucets, dishwashers, espresso/ice machines, and fine filters (carbon, RO membranes), reducing clogs, noise, and energy waste.
  • Designed for longevity: Reusable mesh typically lasts 2–4 years; housing is BPA-free and tested for 150k water-hammer cycles and high hydrostatic pressure, so the system stays leak-tight under real-world spikes.

Safety & Care
Safety & Care
  • Indoor use only: Battery bay isn’t waterproof—do not install outdoors or where it can get wet.
  • Operating limits: Cold water 0–40 °C (32–104 °F); pressure 0.1–0.7 MPa (1–7 bar). If pressure spikes, use a regulator.
  • Freeze caution: Keep above freezing; winterize if the area can drop below 0 °C.
  • After line work: Always press Flush to clear construction debris.
  • Maintenance: Auto-flush handles routine cleaning; inspect window monthly, rinse mesh if heavily soiled; replace mesh every 2–4 years depending on water quality.
  • Drinking water note: This is a pre-filter—it removes sediment, not dissolved chemicals/metals; pair with carbon/RO for full purification.
  • Electrical safety: Use fresh AA batteries; avoid short circuiting the battery compartment.
  • Fittings: Install upright; use thread sealant/tape on adapters; don’t overtighten brass connections.
Benefits
Benefits
  • Protect your kidneys — reduce grit intake from city lines so every sip is cleaner and easier on your body.
  • Make coffee gear last longer — shield espresso machines, kettles, and ice makers from abrasive sediment that kills performance.
  • Cook with pure flavor — boil pasta, rice, and soups in clear water so taste stays clean and consistent.
  • Healthier daily sips for everyone — kids, pets, and guests get sediment-free water at every tap—no bottles, no refills.
  • Happier showers & skin — keep shower heads and valves unclogged for a smooth, even, “rain-shower” spray.
  • Brighter laundry & spotless dishes — cut rust flecks and haze so whites stay bright and glassware sparkles.

☑️ Captures sand and rust down to 40 μm at the main line and auto-flushes the junk out, so your whole home enjoys cleaner, clearer water 24/7.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What does it actually filter—and what doesn’t it?

It stops sand, rust, and grit ≥40 μm at the main line. It does not remove dissolved chemicals/metals or microbes and does not generate hydrogen—pair with carbon or RO for taste/chemical removal.

Will it reduce my water pressure?

No. It’s built for high flow (up to ~25 GPM) with low pressure drop, so rain showers and multi-tap use stay strong.

How “automatic” is the cleaning? What maintenance is needed?

A rotary scraper keeps pores clear and the unit auto-flushes ~every 15 days (press Flush anytime). Use 3×AA batteries (≈1 year). The 316L mesh is reusable—you just purge to drain.

How long does it last? Can I buy just the filter mesh?

Housing/head: 5–10+ years (indoor install, 1–7 bar, 0–40 °C). Mesh: replace about every 2–4 years (sooner for silty wells, later for clean city water). There’s no fixed “liter” cap because the screen auto-flushes; life depends on water quality. Yes, replacement 40 μm 316L mesh for AL-PRE-AUTO1 is sold separately.

Where should I install it, and what does it fit? Any limits?

Indoors on the cold-water main after the shutoff (match arrow to flow). Ports are G3/4" male; use adapters for ½" or 1" copper/PEX/CPVC. Limits: 0–40 °C and 1–7 bar (use a regulator if higher). Keep the drain hose to a floor drain. Do not install outdoors (battery bay isn’t waterproof).

Is it OK for municipal and well water? When do I add other filters?

Yes—great as a first-stage pre-filter for municipal or many well systems within the limits. For very silty wells, shorten the flush interval; for taste/chemical removal, add carbon/RO downstream.
